Maple Brown Sugar Cream Cheese Cookies

Meet your new favorite cookie. These cookies are made with a soft, buttery brown sugar base, and topped with a perfectly sweet maple cream cheese icing. The base bakes perfectly, with crispy edges and a warm, soft center. These were so easy and quick to bake, and my family finished them immediately. I highly recommend this recipe if you’re a brown sugar lover.

Baking Tips

  • If accessible, I always recommend using an electric mixer. For cookie recipes I always switch to using my hands to fold in the flour and knead the dough
  • When you take the cookies out of the oven they should barely look done. They will continue to bake through as they cool. If you wait until the cookies fully solidify before taking them out of the oven, they will end up super dense when they cool.

Ingredients for Cookie Base

  • 1 stick of unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups + 1 tbs all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Ingredients for Icing

  • 4 tbs unsalted butter
  • 4 tbs plain cream cheese
  • 1 tbs maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Ingredients for Glaze

  • 2.5 tbs unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

How to Bake

  • Begin by combining your butter and sugar together in a bowl. The butter should be softened. Its okay if the mixture is slightly clumpy after mixing, it’ll even out when we add the rest of the ingredients
  • Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup, and again mix everything together until smooth
  • Finally, add in the flour gradually and combine until your cookie dough forms. I recommend using your hands to knead the dough
  • Form balls about an 1.5 inches in diameter and space them out across a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  • Let the cookie dough balls sit in the freezer for 20-30 minutes
  • While they sit in the fridge, prepare the glaze. You will use half of the the glaze to add onto the cookie base, and the other half to drizzle on top of the frosting
  • Simply melt the butter and mix it with the cinnamon. Once you take the cookie out of the freezer, drizzle about 1/2 tsp of glaze on each one
  • Bake the cookies at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, making sure to check on them as they bake
  • While the cookies bake, start your frosting. Put your butter and cream cheese in a small bowl and microwave them until they melt. You may have to take the bowl out and mix a few times
  • Once fully melted, add in the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Mix well
  • Once your cookies are done baking, let them cool fully before icing them. Top everything with the rest of your cinnamon-butter glaze and Enjoy!
